Biography
Rough Beginnings -
Pushing through trees and brush, feet pounding on the forest floor, the woman ran as fast as she could, leaving all she knew behind. Tears had stained her cheeks, her eyes red and puffy from sobbing after the horrible experience. Ayame had left the Golomore Jungle with nothing more than the clothes she wore. Nothing there mattered enough to stay near that horrid man. Eventually, she paused, panting heavily she doubled over, hands holding onto her thighs as she stared through blurred vision down at her feet. Everything was… far away. As if she were floating and not really in her body anymore. The last thing she remembered, black had started to creep into the edges of her vision, and she fell to the ground, passing out from sheer exhaustion. When she came to, she found herself exactly where she had been, though it was dusk now, whereas it had been nearly midday when she crashed. Her hair was matted and tangled with leaves and twigs, legs and arms littered with scratches from thorns and jutting branches and the like. She oriented herself for a moment, following a path she knew to lead further from her home. Finding that she hadn’t been followed this far eased her mind some, allowing her to walk rather than sprint. She came across a river, a sigh of relief leaving her lips as she darted her tongue out along them, though the attempt to wet her dry lips failed as her tongue was just as dry. The viera dropped to her knees, cupping her hands and scooping some of the crystal clear water into her mouth, drinking deeply. Once she had her fill, she cupped her hands around more water, splashing it over her face that had smeared with dirt, tears, and blood. In that moment, pausing to look at her reflection, she saw just how frightened and broken she was, and she vowed to herself to never allow that to happen again.
Business is Business -
While the horrors of her past caused Ayame to flee her homeland, years later, the aftermath of it all woke something inside of her. After braving an arduous journey to get to Doma, then fighting on the streets merely for the right to live for two whole years; an anger festered inside, longing for some outlet. That determination that she would never be helpless again, and that rage that so evidently burned inside, eventually won her the attention of a skilled ninja, who would train her in art of the kill. Ayame’s training would lead her to her work, that outlet she had so desired ever since that dreadful day; she began taking contracts on men who had committed the same crime done against her all those years ago. Her tactic generally included seduction, luring them to an inn or hotel where they felt safe and satisfied, all until the stroke of her blade would silence them forever.
Her mentor, and even the elders of her childhood tribe had instilled in her to be cold, calculating, and unfeeling, but that simply was not who she was at her core. The work, while in some ways therapeutic, also took its toll. Her solace was mostly won by the fact that other people were safer once the deed was done. But under the surface, that burning sensation that had cried out for justice, was ever so slowly burning away at her very being as well.Found Family - Even though it was buried deep inside, Ayame could not help but recognize a fellow soul being burned away whilst she was on a job in Southern Thanalan. When she came upon her target, it so happened that he was engaged in combat with a rather feisty and fiery individual; a woman who exuded immense power of dark, unchecked fury. A voidsent wolf at her side, and a rage that was nothing short of impressive, if not somewhat terrifying. Ayame’s intended target was cut down with ease, but the woman was left in an unstable state as a result of her power. Ayame no longer felt the need to conceal herself, and this woman clearly needed help. Ayame rushed forward, and caught her, soothing her until the dark aura went down to a manageable level. When she had more of her wits about her, she introduced herself as Tavi, and she would be the first person Ayame took under her wing.
The second soul that Ayame recognized as someone being similarly weighed down, was a Miqo’te by the name of Aza that she met while away in Gridania. Aza was a trained archer, but one that had a clear passion for music, and a song in her heart she longed to share.
Upon returning to Doma, after her time in Eorzea, Ayame met up with her long time friend, Kure. Ayame regaled Kure with every detail, and how seeing so much of herself in Tavi and Aza both, inspired her. She wanted to create a place of sanctuary for people from all walks of life: a space where no one would ever want for merriment, friendships could be forged, and everyone could belong. She was finally able to admit to both herself, and her friend that the life of an assassin was burdening her soul, and this felt like it was her way out. However, she knew she would need someone to help with the finances; Kure, seeing a spark in her friend that she had not seen before, hastily agreed.Settled and Retried -
Among her new found family, at the home that they built, Ayame would find purpose in not only running the tavern, but also a guild (FC). The guild was made up of skilled mercenaries and proficient hunters: only ever taking contracts for genuine threats, and shying away from needless slaughter. By day, many a guild member tends to their various duties and contracts, but by night many of the guild’s members, particularly the higher ups turn towards the night life: helping run the tavern smoothly.
A notable one among them was a dancer, a fair haired miqo’te by the name of W’yleh. Originally hired for entertainment at Scarlet Steel Tavern, and popular among many of the patrons, W’yleh had also quickly earned a place among the family by trading in secrets and tips for the guild.
While talented dancers can most certainly be found among the sights of the Scarlet Steel Tavern, the true heart of the venue was not to be found in the tangible senses alone, but in a strong commitment to a feeling of belonging. While the tavern hosts its fair share of regulars, one of its other charms is that it is always abound with new faces. The hosts endeavor to cater to the needs of the patrons; even going so far as to provide additional comforts that would make any person feel more at home. For example, if Ishgardian cuisine is not to someone’s preference, the staff will do all they can to accommodate, and they take pride in doing so.Finding True Love -
